Not on my Watch!

Have you ever thought about what legacy you will leave behind?  Will you leave a hefty savings investment, loads of stocks, or a bunch of properties?  Will you be remembered as the Donald Trump in your family?  Sounds good, right?  With wise planning and decision-making, all of these earthly treasures are very possible.  But, what’s really important to you?  What are you eternally living for?

I was bombarded with all of these provoking thoughts when Evangelist Christine Caine stopped by to spread the gospel at church over the weekend.  Christine is one of the pastors and directors of Equip and Empower Ministries, as well as the founder of The A21 Campaign.

From where I was sitting this petite, 5’2 wife and mom of two was on fire!  Her intention and purpose was clear-no doubt!  Christine stands strongly in the fight against human trafficking, one of the most devastating and brutal crimes to invade our world.  Her passion was intense and I admire her courage.  Christine said something that shook me to my core.  She said, “Not on my watch!”  She hollered, “Someone must do something!”

These days, when we think of “watch” we think “gotta watch out for myself”.  There’s all of this horrific sadness happening around the world, yet we’re worried- what will happen if we step out?  I’m only one person; what kind of change can I make?  Because change is scary and uncomfortable, we find it’s easier to sit down, grab the remote, and tune out.  It sure is safer and less risky, but is this the life we were created for?

As believers, one of our purposes is to help those who can’t help themselves.  By doing this, we leave a legacy to be proud of.  More importantly, we need to trust God and have faith in His purpose for our lives.  I know sometimes it’s not easy, but I’ve found that when I let go and let God, He somehow makes a way.  He will protect us as we walk through darkness -  we are the light!

When I focus on others, and less on myself, the more God is able to do through me.  I’ve been prayerfully asking for guidance – “Send me where you need me, show me the way”.  With this prayer, my courage increases and my heart deepens.  I don’t have all of the answers, but I’m more aware of my eternal legacy now than ever before.  It just takes faith as small as a mustard seed – that’s all that we need!
